Iowa City, IA--U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, an Iowa Republican and chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, named Hands Jewelers of Johnson County as her Small Business of the Week on March 24.
According to a news release on Ottumwa Radio Group, Ernst said the recognition is part of a plan during the 119th Congress to highlight one small business in each of Iowa's 99 counties. In a statement carried in the release, Ernst said Hands Jewelers reflects the longevity and community role of Iowa small businesses.
The release said John Hands moved to Iowa City in 1893 and soon opened a jewelry store that later became Hands Jewelers. The business is now approaching its fifth generation of family ownership.
As stated in the report, Hands Jewelers has served customers in Iowa City for more than a century, providing jewelry and personalized service for occasions such as engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and family milestones.
