New York, NY—In the last few weeks, as stores have re-opened, professional burglars have again become active doing rooftop burglaries and cutting into safes. The Fourth of July weekend has historically been a very active time for jewelry burglars, and the Jewelers’ Security Alliance advises a heightened alert for the coming holiday weekend.

JSA’s recommendations:

  1. An owner or employee must respond to ALL cases of an alarm condition or power interruption at a store. Make sure your call list at the alarm company is up-to-date and that an appropriate person on the list will be available on the holiday weekend, probably in the middle of the night.
  2. Do not go without police or guard accompaniment.
  3. A full inspection of the interior and also of the roof, sidewalls, and all possible points of entry should be made.
