An organized distraction theft crew takes jewelry in Montgomery, AL; and, Suspect leans over open showcase and takes loose diamond in Sioux Falls, SD. Following are details of two robberies provided by Jewelers Security Alliance (JSA):
ORGANIZED DISTRACTION THEFT CREW TAKES JEWELRY
Montgomery, AL area; June 1, 2021
The three male suspects pictured were in a retail jewelry store and kept redirecting a sales associate to pull jewelry from showcases. When another sales associate saw what was going on, the second sales associate assisted the first. The suspect in the white tee shirt and black ball cap took a necklace from an unlocked showcase and left the store. The other two suspects soon exited, pushing an employee as they left.

Recommendations:
1. Three or more suspects entering a retail jewelry store together is a red flag requiring special vigilance.
2. A customer redirecting a sales associate to pull more and more product from showcases is a red flag requiring special vigilance. Show only one item at a time.
3. Showcases must be kept locked except when a sales associate is actually removing or returning product.
4. In suspicious situations involving red flags, it is wise to have a second sales associate assist, in order to provide an extra pair of eyes.
SUSPECT LEANS OVER OPEN SHOWCASE AND TAKES LOOSE DIAMOND
Sioux Falls, SD; May 25, 2021
The two black male suspects pictured above went into a jewelry store at 6:30 p.m. They placed a bag on a showcase, and then started to look at diamond studs at another showcase. They then went back to the case where the bag was and asked to see loose diamonds.
The sales associate showed only one diamond at a time, but while one suspect drew away the eye of the sales associate, the other suspect leaned over and took a loose diamond from the open showcase. The suspects quickly moved the sales associate to another showcase and left the store in two minutes.
Suspect #1 is described as in his 30s, with a husky build and wearing a white shirt and black golf hat. Suspect #2 is described as 40s, tall and slender, and wearing a pink shirt and a white hat. If you have information, contact JSA at 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.
