According to a report published in Deadline, around 50 individuals, cloaked in hoodies and masks, stormed the store, clashing with security using bear spray. The looters made off with goods estimated between $60,000 to $100,000.
This audacious mid-day incident follows a similar incident in L.A. County where the Yves Saint Laurent store in Glendale's Americana at Brand Mall was targeted, resulting in a $300,000 loss. The culprits vanished in about 20 vehicles.
Around 4 PM, during the Topanga Mall incident, the mob violently targeted display cases grabbed handfuls of merchandise, and toppled mannequins.
In response, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass stated in the news report, "What happened today at the Nordstrom in the Topanga Mall is absolutely unacceptable."
"Those who committed these acts and acts like it in neighboring areas must be held accountable. The Los Angeles Police Department will continue to work to not only find those responsible for this incident but to prevent these attacks on retailers from happening in the future."
The report highlighted that Nordstrom faced a similar situation in November 2021, where robbers used bear spray on security and made away with high-end bags.
