Lutsen, MN--As the summer season concludes on the North Shore, local businesses reflect on their successes.

Notably, Big Water Jewelry & Gifts, which opened in April at the previous location of Jeweler of the North in Lutsen, celebrates a flourishing first summer.

According to a WTIP report, Kathryn Hatopp, the proud owner, remarked, “I would say at least 80 percent of their customers have become my customers.”

Originally from Oshkosh, WI, Hatopp had envisioned establishing an antique, art, and jewelry outlet in Grand Marais. Nevertheless, the availability of a retail space in Lutsen was too good to resist. “I adore Lutsen and the community. The people and my landlords have been wonderful,” Hatopp added, per the report.

Visitors to Big Water Jewelry & Gifts can expect diverse offerings, including jewelry, antiques, art, and glassware. Hatopp emphasizes “beautiful handmade quality,” showcasing her genuine passion.

As winter approaches, Hatopp intends to take a break in November and operate on weekends in December. “I think that I’ll try being open on the weekends to see if the ski hill brings the business down to downtown Lutsen,” she said, per the report.

For those eager to explore her store during off-hours, Hatopp mentions her availability at 218-370-9414. “I do live in Lutsen, so it’s usually very convenient for me to come down,” she said. “And I love every excuse to get out of doing housework.”
