According to Manhattan Beach Police, five thieves wearing hoodies broke into Prestige Jewelers on Saturday, smashing showcases.

According to a Los Angeles Times report, an employee pulled out a firearm and shot at the suspects as they tried to make away with Rolex watches and diamonds estimated at $250,000. This scared the culprits away, saving a significant portion of the store's inventory.

In contrast, a 2014 robbery at the same store saw two men swiftly stealing from display cases, only to be deterred by the screams of the store's manager.

The recent attempted heist saw the culprits escape in vehicles, heading south on Sepulveda Boulevard. Manhattan Beach Police, in cooperation with Gardena Police Department, announced the arrest of one of the suspects on Sunday.

The police confirmed that no employees were harmed during the incident, though some jewelry was taken. Details about the number of shots fired or the value of the stolen items were not disclosed.
