Meet This L.A. Artist Bringing Narrative Possibilities to Jewelry Design April 25, 2022 (0 comments)

Maggi Simpkins

Los Angeles, CA--When Los Angeles Times' Darian Symoné Harvin visited jewelry designer Maggi Simpkins, she might have just been surprised to find that the designer was only wearing a few gold jewelry and rings. Her style, Harvin writes, is "very minimalist, understated" — a style for which she's well-known in L.A. She's even designed pieces for Kendrick Lamar, Kendall Jenner, and will.i.am.

Simpkins believes in creating pieces from a place of momentum. Writes Harvin, "People make things all the time that don’t motivate them to get out of bed in the morning. But Simpkins makes jewelry that feels infused with purpose."

There's a process that goes into it. Simpkins listens, reads, and researches her subject. Her work involves examining a wide variety of jewelry online, on TV, and in magazines. She infuses all the experience, knowledge of stones, and inspiration into her work, yielding pieces that are trendsetting.

"I just want to create and love, and be in the company of people that I love," Simpkins tells the LA Times reporter.
