Dallas, PA—Valentine’s Jewelry this week was awarded the Business Of The Year Award from the Back Mountain Chamber, a business organization in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Owner Elva Valentine (left) founded her business as an antique shop 34 years ago, in one room. Over the years, she’s expanded and focused on fine jewelry, building a loyal clientele of both men and women in the northeast corner of the state between the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Now, she’s working on expanding beyond local borders, with a focus on her online business. “Even if people don’t buy online, they shop online,” Valentine told the Citizens’ Voice, a local newspaper. “Being online is essential to businesses today. We send pictures to people all over. We have customers all over the United States because of the website.”

Valentine’s husband, David Green, a renowned sculptor, helps with the business and her children, Susan and Jonathan Valentine, also have periodically worked there throughout the years. Valentine’s Jewelry employs three full-time and up to 10 part-time workers based on the season. She calls the success of her store a combination of community, staff, and family.

Valentine also was a founding member of the Back Mountain Business Association, which evolved into the Back Mountain Chamber. She was presented with her award at a gala dinner on Tuesday—just in time for, um, Valentine’s Day.
