Merrick, NY—Need help knowing what to post on social media? It’s not always easy to figure out what’s best to post, plus it’s hard to find the time most days. Having a plan makes most ongoing projects quicker and easier. Dare we say almost painless?

Following are some sources for Facebook content posting. You can easily apply the same principals to your other social media accounts as well.

First and foremost, don’t overthink the posting process. Many people psych themselves right out of posting because they think you have to spend a lot of time and effort on each post.

Posting can really be a 2-5 minute project each day. It doesn’t have to consume your entire morning (or afternoon or evening). If it’s taking you longer than that, you need to rethink your process and figure how to streamline it. If you need to spend 20 minutes writing a post to feel you have a good post, it’s time to re-evaluate. It doesn’t have to be so hard.

On to where to find ideas/images/inspiration:

  1. Your Vendors – The vendors you buy from generally have very nice images of the products they sell. And most will when you image files upon request. So every few days, run a great image with a short note on why you like it, or why you stock it, or what a great color the stone is. Quick and easy.
  2. Your Own Stock – Ask any employee in the store what their current favorite ring/necklace/watch/earring/etc. is. Snap a picture of her/him wearing it. Let them tell you in one or two sentences why they like it and post that. Even better – ask each employee to post something they like one day a week. Depending on the size of your staff that may save you many days of posting.
  3. Your Store’s Passions – not every post has to be about jewelry (yes, that’s what I said). If one of your employees is into dog rescue, for example, perhaps you post some images from your local humane society of pets for adoption.
  4. Charities Your Store Supports – The same goes for the charities your store donates to and supports. Talk them up, remind your customers they exist and they do good work.
  5. Talk about Jewelry Trends – These are easy to find – check out trade press websites and magazines that come to your store. Talk about a trend and find a piece or two or three in your store that fit it and show those too.
  6. Reposting – possibly the quickest way to post is to repost something from someone else – especially your vendors. If you haven’t already, look up and like/follow each of your vendor pages. Then when it’s time for a quick post, just click on your page’s newsfeed, and share one of the relevant posts. Be sure and add a short comment of your own to whatever it is and voila, you are done.

Don’t forget that you can also schedule your posts in advance (however, if you are reposting, you cannot schedule those). That’s one easy way to take care of your Facebook posts for the week. Consider spending 10-15 minutes each Monday (or Tuesday) morning and schedule all your posts for the week. Then it’s one less thing to do each day!

Ideally a mix of all the above will work. Showcase your inventory, your employees, your passions and your personality through Facebook posts. Many people choose to create a content calendar and follow that. Whatever you do, make it quick and easy and keep your goal focused on expanding your store’s social media presence.

Also consider scheduling your posts and, finally, don’t forget possibly the most important point: it doesn't always have to be about jewelry. Posts about cats get viewed. If you’re out of ideas, just google “cat memes” and pick one. It works.
