Smash-and-Grab Robbers Use Bear Spray as Aid, Flee With Nearly $1 Million in Merchandise August 15, 2022 (0 comments)
New York, NY--A smash-and-grab incident saw thieves using bear spray on jewelry store employees before fleeing away with nearly $1 million in merchandise.
According to a news report, the robbery was carried out by a group of 10 masked individuals at a jewelry store on East Fordham Road.
The incident, per the report, occurred around 7 p.m. when businesses around were getting ready to close. The group entered the store, and one of them flashed a gun while others sprayed at the suspects, temporarily blinding them. Other members of the group smashed their way into the cases, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of items.
“People were coughing and covering their eyes because most of the people who got sprayed were inside the store," a witness said in the report. "They were messed up pretty bad. Eyes were puffed up seemed like they got sprayed head-on, in the face. It’s crazy.”
The suspects got away via vehicle and motorcycle. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
