Los Angeles, CA—Everyone wondered how they were going to pull off a major awards show with no red carpet and no pans of the audience to spot your favorite stars. Image: Issa Rae in Forevermark.

Now we know. Sunday night’s 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, proved yet again that whether it’s a trade show or an awards show, necessity is the mother of invention.

Although the event was held in an empty Staples Center, the stars still got dressed up for Zooming from home. And in good news for jewelers, they decked out with plenty of gorgeous pieces. Although there were fewer placements, there were some notable moments featuring readily available brands. For instance, Issa Rae, the nominated producer of Insecure, wore Forevermark jewelry: teardrop shaped diamond earrings, 6.73 ctw, and a marquise shaped diamond ring, 3.90 ctw, both in 18k white gold.

Catherine O’Hara, meanwhile, chose David Yurman, as did Yvonne Orji (Insecure). O’Hara is one of the leads in the Canadian megahit Schitt’s Creek, which swept every single comedy category and won nine awards total. O’Hara (below top) wore a subtle pair of Yurman’s button earrings with her black lace dress and combat boots, while Orji (below bottom) wore a pair of diamond cluster on-the-ear earrings.

The most noticeable trends of the evening were statement necklaces and color—lots of color. Whether understated like Reese Witherspoon’s sapphire and diamond earrings and ring from Louis Vuitton Jewelry or can’t-miss-it rainbow hues like the Bvlgari necklace Zendaya wore for her presenter moment and Kerry Washington’s Chopard emerald earrings, or heaps of pearls like Julia Garner’s from Chanel Fine Jewelry, diversity of jewels reigned.

Finally, Blackish’s Anthony Anderson proved that real men do wear diamonds—diamond flowers, no less—for his on-stage appearance, one of the few of the evening.
