London, UK—Kate Middleton, the trendsetting Duchess of Windsor, has a favorite pair of earrings she wears for Zoom calls. (Image: Instagram) The Patrick Mavros earrings, which People magazine reports retail for $990 (Mavros’s website has them at $1,021), are handmade drops with a milky quartz bezel set in sterling silver dangling from sterling silver sea urchins with an 18k yellow gold bezel accenting a center diamond, 0.06 ctw., below:

Not surprisingly, these are sold out (like anything the Duchess wears) and there’s an eight to nine week waiting list for a pair. But not to worry: there are other versions of the sea urchin earring on Mavos’s website. And better yet, what really matters is that the overall silhouette of the earring—two round elements with a drop that hangs just slightly below the earlobe—is classic, simple, and universally flattering. It can be done in anything from casual hammered metal to dramatic diamonds and gems. Here are some other companies that make similar styles for casual day or elegant evening looks:

Gurhan’s sterling silver Lentil drop earring is “kissed” with 2.5 microns of 24k gold vermeil. The brand uses recycled gold used wherever possible and uses only supplier-certified sourced metals.

18k white gold and diamond daisy drop earrings from Gumuchian’s G. Boutique feature dual daisy flower motifs with diamond centers; 0.10 ctw. Also available in yellow or rose gold.

For a slight variation on the style, try a round drop on a snug hinged hoop. Above, Fana’s sapphire and diamond cluster drop earrings are available in 14k white, yellow or rose gold or platinum. Below, Sethi Couture’s “Concentric” earrings in 18k white gold with black rhodium, with 1.27 ctw of white diamonds.

“Roundabout” earrings from Lika Behar are 24k gold with “Sleeping Beauty” turquoise oval cabochons (7.31 ctw), and 0.03 ctw center diamond accents. Posts and backings are 18k gold for strength:

For a slightly longer version, Suna Bros.’ double blossom earrings in 18k gold have both brushed and bright finishes, with six G, VS diamonds (0.15 ctw). Approximate length, 1.1 inch.

Finally, a soft blush of gemstones: below top, Le Vian’s 14k Strawberry gold and Neapolitan opal earrings feature 0.20 ctw of Chocolate diamonds and 0.75 ctw of Nude diamonds, or below bottom, Omi Privé’s Padparadscha sapphire and diamond drop earrings feature slightly mismatched padparadscha sapphires, complemented by contrasting fancy-color sapphire tops set in 18k rose gold prongs with white white gold diamond halos and an inner rose gold diamond halo.
