Understanding How and Whether to Compare Your Conversion Rates to the Average 2-3% March 22, 2021 (0 comments)
Denver, CO--Randall Hartman wrote a recent article entitled "Here's the Scoop on Conversion Rates," published on the Retail Customer Experience website.
Hartman, founder and interactive director of the digital agency Groundwrk in Denver provided retailers using ecommerce with both data and rationale for what to expect and shoot for in terms of website conversion rates.
Here's a summary of the advice offered in the article:
- The average conversion rate for US based ecommerce businesses ranges between 2-3 percent;
- The average conversion rate should neither be used as a target nor as a comparison to your own conversion results;
- Conversion rates should not be compared unless you are selling the same product at the same price, and even then, site traffic must first be considered
Hartman went on to recommend two inexpensive tools that help a website gauge the UX (user experience). These tools record the user's path to conversion, the theory being that the easier that path, the more the resulting conversions.
