I love 95% of what Jimmy has to say… but I have to disagree strongly about an ups system in a fine jewelry store.  An ups system might be fine for used cars and small appliances - but the emotional and personality ties to a luxury jewelry purchase make the whole ‘who’s turn is it?’ idea fair to everyone BUT the customer.  ... Unless of course you are 100% certain that every member of your team is equally knowledgeable, equally skilled and equally agile and adept at dealing with a wide range of communication styles.

Consider replacing the idea of an ups system with a well-defined brand promise (to which everyone drawing a paycheck is firmly committed),  solid standards for client service, a robust (and mandatory use) CRM system and active and engaged floor management to keep all the wheels turning in the right direction.
