The shopping “holiday,” created by American Express, is designed to help independent retailers do more business during the holiday season, partially in response to big retailers’ Black Friday sales but also as a means of cementing customer loyalty to hometown businesses.
In 2015, the biggest year yet for Small Business Saturday according to American Express, 95 million shoppers spent an estimated $16.2 billion at independent retailers.
This year, American Express is offering independent retailers some free marketing materials for Small Business Saturday. Through its Shop Small Studio, jewelers are among the independent retailers who can create customizable Small Business Saturday promotional materials for digital or print use. (Digital materials are free; but business owners are responsible for printing costs for certain printed materials.)
For those in a hurry (or who feel particularly un-artistic), ready-to-use materials also are available.
