Brentwood, TN—It goes without saying that good salespeople have a certain kind of personality: they’re outgoing, friendly, helpful, and genuinely enjoy people all around.

But what other behavior traits are most important to have in your employees?

In a column for HR Advisor, Dan Oswald, CEO of HR consultancy BLR says the answer isn’t as simple as it seems. While it’s easy to sit and list many behaviors that are important to your business’s success, narrowing it down to the most important isn’t. He acknowledges that every business and every organization is different, so the three behaviors most important to one aren’t necessarily going to be the same in another. Regardless, he recommends sitting down and figuring out the three that are most important to you to help in both hiring and continued success.

For him, the three most important are curiosity, collaboration, and commitment. People who are naturally curious are more innovative and entrepreneurial, he says. They accept change most readily and don’t think they already know it all. Someone who is collaborative and willing to work together to achieve a common goal is critical in his organization and, lastly, he seeks commitment to pursue and aggressive goal, even when things don’t go exactly as planned.
