Five Arrested After About 20 Robbers Ransack Sunnyvale Jewelry Store June 26, 2024 (0 comments)

Sunnyvale, CA--A group of about 20 suspects ransacked PNG Jewelers in Sunnyvale on the afternoon of June 12, smashing display cases with hammers and taking an unknown amount of jewelry, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) and as reported by NBC News.

According to the report, the robbery occurred at 791 East El Camino Real around 1:27 p.m. The suspects fled in multiple vehicles before police arrived. Officers spotted two vehicles and attempted to stop them, but the drivers refused to pull over, leading to pursuits on Highway 101.

Officers lost sight of one vehicle, while the second was found abandoned on Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City. The suspects fled on foot. Per the report, five individuals—Tonga Latu, Tavake Esafe, Ofa Ahomana, Kilifi Leaaetoa, and Afuhia Lavakeiaho—were arrested near Industrial Road and Britan Avenue in San Carlos. The report added that they face charges including armed robbery, felony vehicle evasion, resisting arrest, burglary, and vandalism.

Some stolen jewelry was recovered, but the total value is unknown. No injuries were reported among the victims. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Thomas McKenzie at 408-730-7110.
