Jewelers for Children Announces Rings of Strength Tour; Tucson Event Added
New York, NY—Following the very successful inaugural Rings of Strength event in Las Vegas in June, Jewelers for Children announces two editions for 2014. The first will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, AZ, and the second will again be held in Las Vegas, on May 29, 2014. Both events will include walking, running, and biking options for all interested participants.
In Tucson, participants will wind through the property of the Marriott Starr Pass on existing routes through its grounds and nature trails. In Las Vegas, participants will again be able to choose from a challenging 50K bicycle ride in the foothills of the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, or walk or run a 5K along Las Vegas Blvd., aka “The Strip.”
Bicylists can bring their own cycles or rent one. In Tucson, the Marriott has bike rentals available and in Las Vegas, McGhies Ski Bike and Board will once again provide rental options.
The Tucson event will begin at 6:00 a.m. and the Las Vegas event at 5:30 a.m. Both events are designed so that participants can enjoy the challenge of participating yet still have time to work a full show day.
"Building on the tremendous success of our inaugural event, we're very excited about the increased interest and potential to raise even more in 2014, said Rebecca Foerster, a JFC board member who developed the concept. There was such a sense of camaraderie among the participants and everyone was so excited about helping kids who really need it, we know the level of interest has grown exponentially and that the 2014 edition will be huge with two exciting events."
Click here to sign up. During sign-up, participants can create their own unique fundraising page and URL, which can be forwarded to all of their friends and acquaintances to encourage them to sponsor your participation. All funds will benefit the Jewelers for Children charity partners.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for both events and full sponsorship packets are also available at www.ringsofstrength.org, or by contacting JFC. Participants can sign up individually, with a friend, or even organize a company team to participate.
Israel Diamond Exchange Launches Synthetics Campaign
Ramat Gan, Israel—The Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) has begun an awareness campaign to ensure that its 3,500 members are fully informed of the implications of trading—knowingly or unknowingly—in synthetic diamonds. The campaign comes on the heels of multiple discoveries of undisclosed synthetics hidden among parcels of naturals.
IDE president Shmuel Schnitzer said, "Our industry is built on transparency, integrity and accountability. The IDE board and I will do all we can to protect our members from falling victim to these unethical practices, [and] will not hesitate to expel those members who have been proven guilty of not disclosing synthetic diamonds that they have sold."
IDE board member Yoram Dvash said that while undisclosed synthetic diamonds had not yet been encountered in the Israeli trade, the issue is of major concern. "As one of the world's leading diamond manufacturing and trading hubs, polished diamonds from all manufacturing diamond centers are traded here. Therefore, we are very much exposed to these challenges and our members must know what they're up against,” he said.
IDE's awareness campaign began December 8 with a lecture on synthetic diamonds by industry analyst Chaim Even Zohar.
Ganoksin Exhibition Calls For Entries
Merrick, NY--The Ganoksin Project is pleased to announce its fourth annual International Online Jewelry Exhibition. This year's theme will be "Changing Hues: Color Embraced by Metalsmiths Around the World." The exhibition is open to all metalsmiths, professional and amateur, advanced and beginner, around the world.
The exhibition is seeking works whose primary theme is color, whether that be using colored materials, exploring creating colored surfaces, or encasing the object in color. Works should be about color; not as an accent or focal point, but as the primary visual focus.
