As per a report, the buyer contacted the seller and offered to meet at the store where the watch would be authenticated, and the buyer would pay with a bank wire or cashier's check. However, after showing the watch to the buyer, the latter snatched the bag containing the watch and fled the scene.
The seller, who goes by the nickname "Sammy" and requested anonymity, reported the incident to the police and posted about it on Rolex Forums, where he found out that he wasn't the only one who had been targeted. Per the report, the police are investigating the incident and asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
Sammy noted in the report that the incident was a reminder that trust is an essential component of these transactions. He also suggested that sellers ensure they have a record of the serial number of the item they are selling to help track the item in case it is stolen. The police, per the report, advised sellers to take safe steps, such as meeting potential buyers in a public place and researching their identification beforehand.
Anyone with information on the incident is requested to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
