According to the store's Facebook post, the event will help people learn the value of their jewelry from the store's certified gemologist appraiser.
Many jewelry retailers use appraisal services as a marketing strategy. Jewelers of America defines jewelry appraisal as a document that describes an item, assesses its relative quality and assigns a value to it.
It notes that appraisal descriptions usually cover the visible, measurable and analyzable facts about the item, such as weight, materials, and markings. Most jewelry appraisals, it notes, also describe specific features such as relative rarity, gemstone quality, and the overall manufacture quality.
Jewelry store owners that might be interested in holding similar appraisal events as Windsor Jewelers could declare to their customers that the intentional over-value of items is illegal under Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to establish more trust. They could also note that periodic appraisals for customers are essential for adequate insurance coverage.
