Merrick, NY—Although the weather erratically teases spring one day then snows the next, meteorologically speaking, spring begins next week. Image: Garnet ring, AGTA.

That’s right: March 1 is the first day of meteorological spring. Although the vernal equinox on March 20 denotes the astronomical start of spring, meteorologists consider March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1 to be the start of seasonal weather patterns.

Consumers are ready. By now, the warm woolens that seemed so cozy last fall are starting to feel smothering, and women are ready for brighter spring clothes.

Global leading color forecasting service Pantone declared “Very Peri,” a periwinkle blue, as the Color of the Year for 2022. But fashion webzine WhoWhatWear is calling it for the fashion colors selling best for spring. Hint: hit your refrigerator and pantry for inspiration! According to WhoWhatWear, spring’s It colors are Kelly green, citrus orange, bubblegum pink, lemon yellow, lime green, and a frosted grape purple that’s not exactly Very Peri, but as WWW says, a close cousin.

Very Peri is Pantone's Color of the Year for 2022, but spring fashion is leaning more toward edible hues.

In jewelry terms, of course, these colors translate to emerald, fire opal or mandarin garnet, pink tourmaline, sapphire, or spinel, fancy yellow diamond, peridot, and lighter shades of amethyst. Here are some ideas:

White gold drop earrings with emeralds and diamonds, Color Source Gems.

Orange sapphire and diamond ring, Omi Prive.

Pink spinel and diamond earrings in white gold, Le Vian.

Yellow diamond necklace, Rahaminov.

Peridot necklace with diamond bezel, above, Suna Bros.; "Eternal Love" bangle in rose gold and amethyst, below, by Bellarri.
