Annapolis, MD—Every year, Zachary’s Jewelers hosts a Mothers’ Day jewelry design contest for fifth-grade students in the Annapolis area. School children design something special for their mothers on paper and the jeweler makes the winning pieces into real jewelry to present to the winners’ moms. This year’s competition drew 113 entries, says an article in Patch.com. Seven finalists were chosen and, from those three winners were selected: two by Zachary’s jewelry experts and one “People’s Choice” winner decided through a social media voting process on Facebook.

Entries were due electronically by April 2. The seven finalists received an invitation to an intimate brunch with their families at the jeweler’s Annapolis location, where the three winners will be announced and the finished pieces presented to their mothers. The jeweler’s website features a special “kid-friendly video” that shows a prior winner, Sophie (now a college student) with instructions about entering. Kids are asked to draw the piece in color, and they can label the parts if they want. Their father or legal guardian then signs the entry and it’s on its way.
